frequencies (archives scientifiques université rennes 1) | sound and light object, 2014

“20 minutes audio piece based on sounds from the scientific archives of Rennes 1 University in France. Edition of 1, only available to be listen to through a white lightbox displaying a tuning fork recalling the sounds used in the composition. Founded by Dominique Bernard, the archives holds an impressive collection of old scientific apparatus, including one of the few remaining « Grand diapason » resonating between 32 to 48 hertz, which can be (barely) heard in the sound composition, among other sounds.

A 10 minutes radiophonic version of the piece will be available as part of the Metropole Electroni[k] project, a virtual map presenting the sound of Rennes found at metropole-electronik.fr.”
