Turning the World into Art

Pitchfork has published a brilliant article about field recording, including interviews with Art Rosenbaum, Ernst Karel and Chris Watson.

In this edition of The Out Door, we explore the wide world of field recordings. We talk about trains in Mexico and the music of honeybees with British sound-scape artist Chris Watson, take a sonic tour of Swiss transport systems and Harvard laboratories with Massachusetts-based location recordist Ernst Karel, and travel through musical history with veteran ethnomusicologist Art Rosenbaum.
